Hey sanity,

I love football, be it college, NFL or CFL.

I'm an Alabama Crimson Tide fan myself. Hopefully we'll have another strong season, but this time have a better finish.

Roll Tide!

Hi SC,

After another brutal summer of watching the O’s, a competitive game of tiddlywinks would be more exciting to watch smile But, yes, football season is my favorite. Go Terps!

Love, love, love the college game. (Don't care too much for the pros.) You'd never know it to look at me now, but I was a linebacker until my shoulder got torn up (and I switched to soccer).

Hoping my beloved Buckeyes can finally win a BIG game other than the one against the Wolverweenies. (If only we were playing Notre Dame.) Maybe someday we'll even beat an SEC team in a bowl game. Now that's just embarrassing.

Hey, Sanity, Lou Holtz and Beano Cook say the Irish will be playing in the BCS championship. You must be feeling VERY confident.

Hey hardenough,

Your Ducks had a bad start to the season. Hopefully my Tide do better on Saturday.

But on the brighter side, some(or a few)fraternity houses found a new bouncer..... grin Oregon Punch grin

In all realities, not a good way to start the season, for any fan. But that's what the NCAA gets for instituting that "pregame handshake" crap. Wasn't that always settled between the team captains at the midfield coin toss??? I thought so.

Absolutely, sanity claws. I've been anxiously awaiting the start of the season, both college and pro.

Who have I got? San Diego State, of course. LOL Actually, they might surprise some people; Brady Hoke seems to be what that team needs. We will definitely know more tomorrow after the UCLA game.

In the pros, it's hard to overlook the Chargers. I can't wait to see them beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh on Oct. 4th (sorry, Domina Irene). I like the Steelers a lot, but not when they're playing the Chargers. LOL

Then there are the Detroit Lions. laugh

For me it's the fantasy football part of it that gets me excited because i'm in it to win it. And of course i'll follow the Buckeyes and Browns as i grew up watching them.

But football means winter is around the corner so i'm looking forard to spring already,ha.

And ever since Modell moved the team out of Cleveland back in '99 i think, it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I might have to have it golden showered out,ha !

sanity claws,

We've got a SUPER MAJOR opening day upset!
I watched it and loved every minute. The Oklahome Sooners are done for 2009.
This is the team that routinely makes a living by beating everyone up by 56-10 type of scores all season long!
While it's true Bradford got hurt, he had been leading them nowhere when he did!

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — With Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford helplessly watching on the sideline, his right arm in a sling, No. 24 Brigham Young upset No. 3 Oklahoma 14-13 on Saturday night.
All he could do was watch as his Oklahoma Sooners lost their chance for a perfect season — and the BYU Cougars launched their bid to become the latest BCS busters from the Mountain West.
Max Hall (FSY) threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to wide-open McKay Jacobson (FSY) in the back of the end zone with 3:03 left, giving No. 24 BYU a 14-13 victory over No. 3 Oklahoma on Saturday night.

Lucky isn't the right word. The Hokies were lucky to be in it so long, they got a ton of breaks and just kept hanging around. Bama should have won by a much bigger score.

It was a big upset, but in college ball it's better to lose early in the season rather than late. And the fact it wasn't a conference game and Oklahoma can still sneak into the Big Twelve title game and go to the BCS championship.

I was lucky enough to go to the Chargers playoff game in January where they won in OT over Indy. Good game, but the strange thing was everyone I talked to around me gave the same answer when asked about being a Chargers fan:

"I'm really a fan of the _______ (anyone from the Cowboys to the Niners to the Jets), but they didn't make the playoffs so I'm cheering for the Chargers."

The Irish looked good today. Next week against the Wolverines will be interesting as Michigan looked good too.

Good man, Hoodman. As I mentioned, I really like the Steelers. One of the reasons is because of the owners; Art Rooney was a class act when he was alive, and his sons seem to be of the same caliber; however, I understand they're in the process of selling the team, but I don't know the details. Even though I like the Chargers, I can't stand Alex Spanos; he has to be one of the worst people to have ever owned a football team.

I've always loved that rivalry between USC and Notre Dame; of course I always root for the Trojans.

How about those Aztecs! LOL

The Browns returned in '99. But the move and leaving the old stadium still sucked the almighty big one ! At that time it could have been Municipal Stadium, don't quote me though.

I still enjoy football but it's diferent now. And i miss those pick football tickets. Always more exditing when something's on the line.

I've always been an Ole Miss fan having gone to graduate school from 1961-1963 when they had killer teams in an era of National Championships, but have suffered through the past couple of decades. Even Eli Manning didn't bring them back to my witnessed level. This year I see that the Rebels are ranked 8th nationally. I just watched them blow out Memphis 45-10 with a QB named Jevan Snead. Will this be a year for them to remember? Time will tell!

(One things for certain: They certainly get their share of Nationally televised games; this is why I was edgy when my NY Giants put it all on the line for Eli in the 2004 draft [I had seen too many of Eli's Ole Miss wobbly passes in his 3 years there even though he broke all of the team's passing records even those of his old man Archie].)

Hi sub_ted:

There are people in San Diego who will never forgive the Mannings for the way they handled the situation in that 2004 draft (I'm not one of them).

Monty,
I wanted the Giants to take Ben Roethlisberger who was there for the taking at pick #11 (not the 1 & 4 that the Chargers and the Giants waltzed over).

Who knows, I may have been right, but ultimately time will tell. Nevertheless Rivers, Eli and Ben made the 2004 draft perhaps the best ever for quarterbacks.

Interestingly enough, both Kerry Collins and Kurt Warner both on the Giants at the time have done wonders since that draft!
