Domina M's posting about braces got me thinking about this. Things that gross you out or send a shiver up your spine, not because they feel good but because they just skeeve you out. We all have some dark little secret that makes us scurry at the first sight of it.

I'll go first. Tiny bits of paper gross me out. Wet paper grosses me out. The smaller the wet paper is, the more it grosses me out. Cigarette butts gross me out (Ironic since I am an occasional smoker). Wet cigarette butts gross me out. Typing this is making me feel all icky. Lol.

Oh, and foam creeps me out. Touching it gives me chills.

I know it sounds so weird but we all have little things that makes you stop dead in your tracks. What makes you uneasy when you see/hear/feel it?

Ok, you can stop laughing now.

I share you horror of cigarette butts, Ma'am.

I'm sure you know it's a survival adaptation, so our monkey ancestors didn't muck around in stuff that would make them sick. Some of us are just more adapted than others!

Good, I am pleased to know that I am not alone when it comes to cigarette butts.

Last night, I was cleaning some dishes and the foam sponge hit my fingers and the chills it send up my spine....I have goosebumps talking about it right now.

Drooling. There's just something about it that's just...wrong and grosser than usual. Probably stems from finding spitting to be such an offensive gesture.

Bugs. If it has more than 4 legs, I get the heebie geebies and scream like a little girl.

OH! and those little wooden spoons that come in the individual ice cream cups. Putting one in my mouth makes my spine shudder.

wait... and foods touching that shouldn't touch. Like... spaghetti sauce and mashed potatoes. Or squishing all the food on your plate into an ugly horrifying mess of one-ness before eating. Oh, the travesty of that is beyond words.

My boy has a severe fear of mayonaisse.

Fat and gristle in meat. It makes me uncontrollably nauseous, sometimes just thinking about it.

Slimy creatures like slugs or leeches. Gum on the bottom of my shoe (pooh is even worst but I do like that bear in the 100 acre woods). Sticky theatre floors. Canes!

Having my fingernails touched... *shudders*

- I thought I was the only one that shuddered when my tongue hit those! Since I was a kid.

this whole thread is giving me the horrors....

I share the cigarette butt horror too - though it extends to most cigarette things - even a pack. When I was a child I had trouble touching a magazine page that had a cigarette advertisement too. Worst thing in the world is a cigarette butt that's wet - especially if associated with something that should be clean like a plate or glass - or in the bathroom.... shudder

I have a horror of the towelling touching my teeth...

and I agree about the fat on meat thing - I've been a vegetarian for 26 years - but I still remember the terrible experience of cutting off a piece of schnitzel and finding once it was in my mouth that it was a piece of fat covered in that coating.... disgusting!

Oh - and cottage cheese - the texture is sooooo gross... oooh - and scrambled eggs - or worse washing up when someone's had scrambled eggs and the plate wasn't scraped and you feel them on your hands in the tepid greasy water.

Cries at the thought.

That REALLY freaked me out as a kid, and I started to work through it in my early 20's.

I still keep a cautious eye on all the food on my plate, however.

Bugs totally creep Me out too. Especially, the crunch kind.
