I will share how punishment writing makes me feel. I wrote lines in elementary school, copied dictionary pages (and an O. Henry short story three times) in high school, and have written thousands of lines in my role as a recipient of domestic discipline.
First of all, I find it erotic. The discussion of it with my disciplinarian, the sentencing (no pun intended) and setting the time aside, gathering the paper, the pens, and frankly the first five or ten minutes of writing -- it is all pulse-quickening.
And then, the tedium sets in as I repent. The world goes on around me, while I sit at my desk or kitchen table, writing the line over and over. When one has been given several hundred to write, or the magical thousand, despair sets in when one realizes a number of hours have been spent and one is not yet even half done. This is especially true if the text to be written is so long that it requires more than one physical line on the written page.
Often my penances are severe enough that it takes several sittings before I am done. In those cases, it colors my whole existance, hanging over me until the task is finally accomplished.
And then comes a feeeling of satisfaction, knowing that I am done. My personality type is "completer/finisher" and it pleases me to be finished.
Next comes nervousness, as my disciplinarian checks my work. This might take some time, if they need to be mailed to her. Finally, unless something has gone awry, I hear that my punishment work is accepted, and I am absolved, having learned a bitter lesson.
I have even, from time to time, done self-punishments using lines. Particularly this has been the case when I was not in a disciplinary relationship. Now I am, and I also have a professional relationship with a most wonderful domme who would be only too pleased to assign me an imposition if I needed one and asked her.
I've also used Fond of Writing and I do find it quite different from traditional lines. It is effective in its own way but I would say it's main achievement is to strip the offender's free time away, making him grounded. FOW watches every second of the clock and "rats you out" if you take a break or make a small error. Written lines, on the other hand, are more personal, and if the line was chosen carefully by the disciplinarian, can teach a positive lesson, e.g. "In future I must ensure that when I drive my car I always wear a seatbelt," or something more punitive, e.g. "I am writing this punishment line one thousand times in my finest hand-writing because I failed to keep a sweet mouth when I was warned that my use of vulgarities must stop."
There are variations, such as requiring the offender to wear a complete school uniform while he does his imposition, strapping his hands so they are tender while he writes, and even selling the lines on eBay. I have suffered all three of these. In the case of the lines on eBay, my corrective wife sold them to a gay man who said he intended to masturbate on them while thinking about the straight man disciplined and controlled by his spouse. I believe the payment worked out to about 30 cents an hour for my efforts. But I'm sure the added humiliation helped me truly learn the intended lesson.

Preface: That pun was totally intended. Hmmm. Ever noticed that Punishment begins with a Pun? Methinks I have an idea.
===
I am so happy you responded on this thread, gw! You are a very lucky boy to have ladies who really care about you and want to help you to become better. Most fellows never have that; going through life spending too much time on the internet, drinking copious amounts of wine, and leaving dirty shoes on the bedspread. What a sad state of affairs for them.
I would be interested in you sharing about what is going through your mind circa line 500. Is it, 'Ow, my poor hands,' focusing on the meaning of the lines (such as the *real* importance of seatbelts and not swearing), thinking about internet porn one could be viewing instead and cannot, a blur, or something different entirely? Also, how do you time projects which take multiple sittings? How many hours are scheduled for you at a time? You know I know, but at least I am giving you the opportunity to type instead of write, right? Tee hee.
I am one hundred percent agree on handwriting being far more personal and tactile than FoW. While I am totally in with the idea of tracking a boy's Line Time, the time, effort, and end product of typing just isn't the same. Besides, displaying several sets of hundreds of handwritten lines in a lady's living room for all to see, reminds every viewer the importance of good behavior... and is a continued public chastisement for the naughty writer.
Please send my highest regards to those Very Special Ladies, along with big hugs. I will also send along request for an affectionate extra hand strapping for someone, just because.
Best wishes -Ms Black
PS- The word is ExistEnce.

Hi, greenwellies, Thank you for sharing your line writing experiences with the Board! Your stories were a blast to read! :-) Hmmm ... why stop at 500 lines ... or 1000 lines? I have a feeling that you are an exceptionally naughty little ne'er-do-well! Wouldn't you agree? So, with that in mind ... I was just wondering ... when are you going to be ordered to write one-million lines? <G> Until later, take care! :-) Cheers, surferdoc

Ms. Black -- I will, of course, write whatever you sentence me to, without a quibble. And as you know, others will be over my shoulder, supervising the effort. Look for your lines in the mail, a week or so after punishing me with them.
xoxo

A million lines? That's just silly. What I wrote about was real, not a fantasy.

I've never had a writing assignment in the sense of line writing, but have been "commanded" to write stories, S/m fantasies, etc. Some were long and involved but unless writer's block set in, it could be a pleasant punishment.
